Young girl with portrait of her father

Young African American Family
There is always someone left behind in times of war. Young children, wives, now a days, husbands. Not just the soldier goes to war, but his family. So many casualties. I think about the men and women out their fighting right now in foreign lands. Thank you and thank you to your families.

  2. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and pictures re the Civil War. Strangely, I just finished reading 4 Norah Roberts books, fiction, but based in Antietam with poignant history of the Civil War woven into her story. On visits to Natchez and Vicksburg, I was impressed that the Civil War is still very real to the residents of those cities.

  3. Ooh I am going to have to get that series. Thank you so much for lettting me know. Yes the effects of the Civil War are still alive here in the South. Nothing like having someone tramp through your city, burn your house and buisness, and steal all your possesions to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

  4. these photos are wonderful! thank you so much for sharing them!my mother and her family were Southerners(Georgia)..my mom would tell the story of her grandmother and grandfather during that time..he had horses that he shot as the Yankee army came close.."no Yankees are going to ride my horses"..they,too,buried items of value,as did many others. Her grandmother never got over the change in her lifestyle after the war.

  5. Their eyes say so much, these were not happy people. These were people just trying to live but willing to die for the cause. I am sure that these family members were heart broken by this Civil War. Mary
