This is a house in our downtown historic district. It is in such bad shape that no one wants to buy it and the owners can't fix it up. I feel so bad when I see places like this. It is as if everything that has gone before have been forgotten. Sometimes I wonder if progress is really progress.
Very poignant, isn't it? I'll bet this house was someone's pride and joy at one time...what stories could it tell?

Although I live close to town, we have miles and miles of open country with little old farms that for whatever reason have been left to fall apart before our eyes. I have thought that I should just start taking short trips in all directions an take pictures of these soon to be gone homes. I would love to know their stories...I just know that I would love to see someone make these places home again.

It is a tragedy when people's histories are left to moulder and disappear, I agree. I love your photograph and it goes some way to preserving what would otherwise fade from view.
ReplyDeleteA poignant photo. These old places had such character, cozy nooks and cubbyholes that are totally lacking in most contemporary cookie-cutter homes. It's sad to see them disappearing, with their stories left untold. OK, I'm feeling all melancholy now, Elizabeth!
