Cinco de Mayo

Ola! Happy Cinco do mayo!

A day to remember the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army. The Battle of Puebla in 1862. Food, flowers, candles, a parade...I love it. In my travels to Mexico I fell in love with the pace of life there. A busy morning, a hearty lunch, a little snooze or time for personnal things in the afternoon, then back to buisness. Topped off by a late family dinner full of friends and good food, music, and laughter. I was really impressed by the extended families and the total devotion to their little ones. Very warm and kind people. Lots of great art and artisans there. Whole communities selling their silver, pottery, woven goods, and metals. Some of the little places the artwork came out of were amazing. Just holes in the wall. Great things can be made in small places.

So, break out the salsa, put on some silver, stick a flower in your hair and whip up some tacos or fajitas tonight. I always find today a good excuse to put on a swishy skirt.
