A little more white pottery...

Here is an oak cupboard that is in the eating area of my kitchen. It is full of white pottery and ironstone. These things make me happy and I actually use most of the pieces. I have not unpacked all of my ironstone so everything is subject to change. The handcarved crow on the spindle is from a little furniture store in North Carolina. The owners friend carves them.

Old Cupboard - New Look

This cupboard sits in my kitchen. I have had quite a mess in my house for the past few weeks. I had some water damage and had to have my kitchen floors replaced, sanded, stained, and a finish put on them. It has been a saga that would bore you to tears! Trust me I almost came to tears a few times, but humor won out.

While the furniture an appliances were moved I decided to repaint my kitchen. Of course this led to changing things around, new color scheme, some new decorating, etc... I have a large collection of ironstone and white pottery - Thank you to my grandmother for this - so I decided to move my green pottery and pull out the white. I was even able to find a place for a couple of last week's garage sale finds.

I love it. I cannot even begin to explain how big of a difference it makes. It is so clean and bright and I love the simple lines of it. It also looks so great in my really cool oak cupboard. It makes my whole kitchen so inviting. Plus , I think about my grandmother and somehow that always gives me strength. She was a very creative person, also very independent and strong minded.
I think she would be very pleased.

Garage Sale Treasures

I had a few minutes Saturday to go to a couple of yard sales. The first one I hit pay dirt. A woman was cleaning out her garage that she had been storing some of her late mother's "old" things in. I was able to buy the two ironstone dishes, two bowls and the sugar and creamer for $5.00. She kept saying that they were just "old" dishes her mother was fond of. Well, I like old things....so it was a perfect fit. The second sale was a crafter who was cleaning out a storage unit. She probably hadn't "crafted" since 1980, but her heart was there. I poked around and found some glitter - new! - a rotary cutting mat and some purple cotton fabric cut into strips for quilting. Perfect. Next month my quilting square has to be purple! She also had eleven packages of these kits to make angels with brass wings, beads, and safety pins. I will not make the angels but I will use the brass wings. All eleven for 25 cents. Then I discovered a couple of old pattern, I like to pack my swaps in the pattern paper, an Italian fabric picture and frame. Hmm the fabric picture I could use on something. Last but not least - a rusting pan to rust things in and a silver heart box, very tarnished. My big total there was $3.00. Home to clean an admire my new treasures!
