Digital Photograph - The Mason Jars....

Mason Jars

Here are a couple of Mason Ball & Atlas jars I have been collecting along my travels. Everytime I run across some that are a good price I try to pick a few up. These are the latest I found along the North Carolina - Virginia border. They came with free dirt and spider webs - minus the spider. I unpacked, washed, took their pictures, repacked and will store them till I find them a home. Eventually they will take up residence in my new studio or kitchen.

I love these simple jars, their blue subtle colors just sing to me. They look good as vases or holders of things! Three are the large ones and the Atlas jar is much smaller. There is a rumor that the one's with 13 on the bottom are the pricer one's. Bootleggers thought they were unlucky so they would break them. Hence, a 13 is rare. I am hoping to run across a few of those minus the whiskey in some old barn. My other dream is to find a green one... something to make the hunt a little more challenging.[ps they came with cool zinc tops]

Oh Janet you are missing something special. I love these old jars. There were ball factories in both Virginia and North Carolina. I am sure that is why there are so many here. Keep your eyes out at thrift stores an antique stores I am sure you will run across them.

I'm fortunate to have only two of these beautiful jars, and I love to see them in the sun. Never heard about the 13! Hugs, Terri xoxo
