Freebies - Birds

Some beautiful birds for you. I have
been setting up my new home when
I have been here. Still unpacking,
organizing,sorting, and getting rid of
things. It is amazing how much I
no longer need or want. The things
that seem important are the things
I have had for a long time. I am
going to have to get an Etsy or Ebay
store to get rid of all the
old treasures. I have tried giving
them to my boys but they like
an uncluttered life.
Sorry I have been missing in
action for so long. I have really
missed all of you. I am just trying to
get all of this move stuff out of the
way. Downsizing is hard!

Bird Watcher - Freebies

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I was able to spend some quality time with family. Makes for a relaxing time. Last night it got me thinking about how doing simply things with those you love can have such a lasting impact on those lives.
For example, my father has all of these bird feeders. They have been in the same spot for over thirty years. As some got older we would replace them or add another along with bird watcher books, binoculars, etc. A bird bath was added to the delight of all. We sit at the table or stand at the kitchen sink and watch the birds antics. We have seen generations of cardinals, finches, and chick a dee's. Hours of pleasure have been shared watching the birds.
This love and care of birds has been passed on. When I moved, I filled my feeders for the last time. Leaving the new owners some bird food in the garage and a note on the counter. My fingers crossed that they will continue feeding my birds. Yesterday, as I sat at my parent's kitchen table eating chocolate chip cookies with my nephews, one looked out the window and admired the extremely red cardinal eating at one of the feeders. Simple things shared and passed on...

Here are a few bird freebies for you to start out the week. I hope you will share something simple with someone you love this week!

Three Muses Challenge - Birds

The Three Muses Challenge this week is birds. Create something with birds. This is one of my favorite themes and honestly quite challenging. Almost paralyzing in that there are so many directions to go.

Last chick has been furiously working on school projects so he can have a long weekend out west with his girl. He is dashing back and forth between computers and printers. I decided that I should just hunker down in the studio and create a a piece there.

I chose one of my favorite birds - the crow. I decided to do a journal page with a quote. The border I got from New York Magpie's Eyes blog. Judy was generous to allow me to use a photo of her fabric strips for a journal she is making. I took the photo and made the border strips. I love the Hawaiian fabric look. It is true - birds of a feather do flock together.

Freebies #24 - Victorian Trading Cards - Birds

This week's freebies are Victorian trading cards. These were used to advertise a business or product that a business carried. Victorian ladies would collect these and make quite elaborate scrap books using these. I have been very fortunate to come across several of these in my flea market and antique store hunts.
These birds are some of my favorites. I love the tobacco one and the birdcage. These have so many possibilities. As "Spring" is just around the corner and everyday seems to bring a new flock to my yard, I thought birds would be this weeks theme. In sorting through my advertising cards I found a slew of cards I had forgotten about. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will have them all scanned and I can begin sharing. Till then enjoy these and please share what you do with them.

These are my weekly canvas panels that I have been working on. Since my outside time is limited I am trying to bring the outside in. I did these with oil pastels, a pencil, and my heat gun.

A Couple of Needle Felted Birds

blue bird
Mr Crow
I really miss being outside. One of the things I miss the most are my birds. There are so many different types of birds here. The migration has probably started. So, these little felted birds are my way of being close to them.
