Journal Pages...Glue Book

I love blue and white. I bought these pots and pans when I graduated from college. They still look brand new and cook like crazy.

I collect old plates. I like to pick them up at thrift stores and flea markets for $1.00. They make great gifts when you load them up with homemade cookies or slices of homemade bread.

The house I am thinking of buying has cabinets like this and the granite is similar. My house at the beach has black granite - hard to keep clean, shows every grain of salt.

Love the lamp that looks like a dandelion. I want it! Also, the large bottle on the counter. I have a real thing for large bottles. I am wondering where that comes from. I like blue bottles, brown bottles, just as long as they are large. Is there a known name for this obsession?

I love the color of sand and blue combined. It is very peaceful and cool to me. Maybe all those years at the beach have imprinted on me. The older I get the more restful I need things to be.

There are so many things available to help you organize your life. It is almost impossible to forget or be late anymore. Alarms on cell phones, calendars of every kind and size, chalk board paint, the list goes on and on. It is sad in away. I want a life that does not have to be scheduled every moment. A moment to lay in the grass and find images in the clouds...

I am house hunting. I am ready to settle someplace and unpack after nine months of travel. I need a place to hang my hat. I have found several houses. I made a bid or two on one house [a foreclosure], but it has not worked out, yet. Till I find the house...

I have compiled a journal - glue book - of ideas and things that appeal to me. A sort of house journal. I took the larger size Moleskin Sketchbook. Tore out all the pictures in catalogs and magazines that appealed to me, and started gluing them in. I left room to write what I liked about them, what might work for me. Some of the pages had things like I own on them or like I want to display the things I own. I have several collections of "things".

When I find a home I can add paint samples, fabric samples and pictures of things I am looking for or need to the journal. This house hunting is hard. It is a start of a new journey...

A Finished Journal...

Finally finished. This journal took a really long time to finish. At over 100 pages, and being on the road we became quite intimate.

I like to ink around my pages to give them some dimension. This was a "diary" type journal with a lot of everyday life thrown in.

I started this journal in the midst of my selling my house and sorting, packing and storing my belongings. It severely limited how much "art" I could do in my journal. I decided to use up old magazines and catalogs. They also make a good surface to glue on. In a hotel or friend's house this is important.

Photographs from home always are welcome. They help to capture a moment or something you were doing. I like to use decorative tape in this type of journal to block off a designated place to capture my thoughts.

I like to include recipes, wine labels, menus, etc. That way when I go to the store to shop I know what to look for. The boys and I enjoy trying out wines from different countries. Over the holidays we pick a country and one night serve food and wine from there. Argentina and Chile are always a big hit. Another one of my boys enjoys beer. I am always amazed at the cool labels they have.

This journal has had a lot of puppy dogs in it. It seemed like I was always finding some cute pup pictures. I figured after about the tenth photo it must be some sort of sign. I have really enjoyed all of the pups I have come in contact with the past few months. Almost every place I have stayed has had at least one or to pups. [Our little guy passed away about 5 years ago.]

More wine labels and a template for an ornament from another December journal page.

I included in this journal things I was attracted to. I figured it was a start on decorating the new house - when I find it. I also found things to remind me of home. I have a clock collection and in this journal I included some images of clocks I have or clocks I am on the look out for. They are also a reminder to enjoy this time. It is a gift.

Here is an example of a page that I just used ideas that appealed to me that I found in several different magazines. I cut them out and put in my journals. I can never find these ideas when I go back through my magazines. This way I have several on a page. Going through a journal is so much easier. I have several journals that I call "idea" journals that have nothing but things I have found in books, magazines, etc... On this page scrabble tiles for name tags for your table, or for the buffet table to name the food you are serving, some rather cool jars to store your fruit and veggies in, and a great recipe for raspberry sparklers.

A good afternoon with friends!

Words can motivate you to do things you might not think was possible. I find that those words of intent can be very important in your life. Remember them. Use them daily.

The end.

I thought I would share this journal with you to show you that your journal can be anything you want it to be. It can be a lovely art journal, a place to jot down lists, decorating ideas, menus, recipes, keep pictures you love, your deepest dreams. A journal can be anything you want it to be, you can have more than one going at a time. Just journal. It will set you free.

Some Journal Pages

Sometimes you find an image and it just speaks out to you. That is what happened when I saw these two sisters. I love their dresses and they look like they depend on each other. I wish I knew their names and what their story was.

Life brings us many things. I have found if you just stand up and face it, the worst is really not as bad as you thought it was. Little did I know when I did this page how soon I would be tested. Some of the border images are from Nancy at Crow about.

If you follow your heart, generally speaking things work out. Sometimes a little common sense helps, but the heart speaks first. The hearts are from Ceremony.

After I did this journal page I was taught the lesson of true friends. Thank you friends for touching my heart.

Good advice at any time. I don't know if you can see the background on this journal page. I used a couple of different crackle paints out on the market to try them out. I like the Tim Holtz one, although I did have to thin it a bit.

These are journal pages I was working on before I fell and broke my hip. My Art Quote Journal was all but finished. Only two pages to finish. I had scanned these and was going to post them that night or next morning. The best laid plans.... So I am posting them today. My goal this week is to finish the two pages that are still backgrounds. Hope you enjoy these.

Journal Pages

Can you believe this wonderful hair style? My mother wore her hair like this when when was young. Thia little one makes me think of her old pictures. Every night I am wishing for rain to cool us down.

I have been thinking a lot about my little Avery lately. Her Daddy is such a good man. She is getting old enough to start pushing some boundaries and realize that their are other things happening in the world besides her and has opinions about them.[my handwriting is drug induced from my surgery, I was sicker than I thought]

This page is a trash sheet from my work table. I played with the girl image in photo shop for another project and decided to print her and the quote on the trash paper and glue it in to my journal.

Some Journal Pages

At the Spring book sale at the library I bought this wonderful Parakeet book. At night when I am watching a movie I have been slowly dissecting it and cutting up the pictures. The borders are from Tumblefish Studio. I am so ready for a vacation!

Every morning I am getting up just as the sun comes up to do some yard work. Here at the coast everything is always growing so something always need a trim. If you don't do it early you can get sunstroke. My constant companion as been this crow. He comes every morning and walks along the fence checking out my work. Behind my house a large group of his buddies have taken up residence. I find myself counting them as I work.[the photo is one of mine]

This pretty much says it all. The doll photo is one of mine that I played around in Photo Shop with. Sometimes I feel like that doll - sort of old an used, but wise and glamorous all at the same time.

A quick simple page to honor those that choose to make my house a more interesting place to live.

After making all those ATC's I had to make a journal page with the left over washi paper and my favorite Asian image. Done while enjoying some Chinese take out....yum vegetable fried rice.

Last memorial weekend I found a few moments to do this page. What could be more important than Family?

Here is a potpourri of so of the past week or so of journal pages. I am sort of all over the place. I had to do journal surgery on my moleskin before it fell apart on me. That take a day or so to dry completely. Now my journal is way thick. Definitely easier to work in though. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

This Weeks Journal Pages

I have started Mary Ann Moss's online stencil class this month. I used to cut stencils in a very traditional manner and decorate people's homes with them a long time ago when it was vogue. I kept quite a bit of my stencils and the cool waxed see through paper I used to make the stencils with. I have been cutting and designing some more updated ones the past week or so. Also, finding everyday objects that I can turn into stencils. I am sure you will see this influence in some of my artwork in the next few weeks.

My journaling the past week has really fallen to the wayside. I have been doing quite a bit of touch up painting, right along with the painters. Thankfully, that will soon be over. I will say though that it really does make a tremendous difference. I don't know why we settle for less in our daily lives.

If you have never danced in the rain I say put that on your bucket list. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to play in the rain. My children use to get such a kick out of it. Sort, of like letting them jump in mud puddles. It is such a freeing experience.

Life feels so much happier with a song in your heart. So kick up the music.[the hats and crowns are from Tumblefish Studios]

Lately, I have been doing all this "adult" stuff. Cleaning, painting, supervising, at the end of the day I just want to scream..."where is the fun in this?" So, now as I do this I am trying to figure out how to have fun and enjoy it through the eyes of a child. I will confess when I found the large chalk bucket I took a few minutes to chalk a heart or two on my garage floor.

This is a page where I painted the background in my journal and really just sort of hated it. I did not want to stamp. stencil, etc. on it thinking it would be a bigger mess. Instead, I just grabbed a bunch of painted papers I use as masks for other things and made the house and tree. The two girls reminded me of the bond we have with certain friends, the bond a mother and daughter have, the bond sisters have.

Last Week's Journal Pages

Last week I bought a bunch of digital images from Deviant Scrap.com. Marsha from Tumblefish Studio has a whole bunch of image packs for sale. I love the whimsy of her work and thought why not? So, this journal page uses her images for my border. The word 'Play' is from her alphabet. The Zetti child is a wonderful freebie from Terri over at Pringle Hill. Thanks so much Marsha and Terri! I hope this page conveys my overwhelming need to Play and do something fun after a grueling day.

This is a scrap page. I like to use regular computer paper as a barrier on my work surface. After awhile a nice layer of paint will build up in various patterns and colors. I used one of these papers to make this page. I did the stencil of the girl on Photo Shop, then just ran the whole page through my printer, printing on landscape. Sprayed the 'joy' girl with her hands out a few times with paint, added some tape and I was set. I then just glued the paper in my journal.

This was another quickie I did in between running to the all night pharmacy last night. Youngest chick aggravated an old sports injury yesterday and was feeling some pain. I just misted away on my pages till I built up a background I liked. Then added the beautiful girl image and went from there. I have been doing a lot of dreaming about different things lately so I guess it just found it's way here.

Journal Pages - Week Two - Collage

A very happy party bird. I think he is celebrating spring.

I have been following Molly and Mcgee with their four little owlets every night before I go to bed. It is fascinating. I think they help inspire this page.

I sewed the image before I glued it to the journal page. It was much easier than trying to sew something to the page after I had painted etc... What cute sisters.

I just loved the hand and the bird is from The Graphics Fairy - thanks Karen.

Don't these two twins look like they have lots of secrets to share?

I am way into week two in my online journal class with Dina Wakley. So far it has been a blast. I have really enjoyed just doing the backgrounds. Then this past week we were to collage on our background pages. Just pick images that we are attracted to, speak to us, and might have something to do with what is going on in our lives. Easy and fun. This week we work on text. That is always the hard part for me.

Even More Journal pages - 5 by 5

This journal had much smaller pages. I chose coordinating pages with yellow and green as my themes. The ledger paper I used was yellow and I wanted a garden feel with this journal.

I tried to use images of flowers and spring. I wanted a light airy feel.

More papers, a lattice type printed cardstock, a wedding table number, all remind me of spring.

These pages have a springtime feel with the potting shed image and the green and yellow paper.
It was not hard searching through the scrap box to find everything I needed to stay with this theme. It was particularly nice to watch the pile of scraps get smaller and smaller. I cannot wait to start journaling.

Some More Journal Pages - 6 by 6

I used all sorts of papers, transparencies and images.

This is such a great way to use all those little pieces of things you have been holding onto.

I used a lot of vintage images and images of old things that I like.

Old maps, ledger paper, coupons, parking tickets, anything that appealed to me went in to the pages.

A Chinese take out menu, my own art work, foreign text, anything that evokes a memory is a good way to start in your journal. Often the imagery will be the prompt you need to get started. These are just a few of the pages from the three 6 by 6 journals that I made.
